Tuscany Local Schools

Tuscany has a history of being an engaged community where many chidren enjoy walking, scootering and riding their bikes to school. In fact in 2013 there was even a Calgary Herald article with video showing just how many kids bike to school. It is awesome! Our schools help form our community spirit so find the right fit for you, get involved, and please drive safetly as they walk, run, scooter, ride and skip their way to and from the various schools in Tuscany.

Tuscany has two central retail/commercial hubs. The main one being Tuscany Market which is in the centre of the community in the NW corner of the intersection of Tuscany Way NW and Tuscany Boulevard NW.

The Tuscany Market includes Sobeys Grocery (including Pharmacy), Rexall (home of the local Post Office), the Medical Centre, Tuscany Chiropractic and Massage as well as Tuscany Dental along the north section of the Market.

Along the west side of the Market are Sobey’s Liquor, Tuscany Curious Hair Salon, Kaleidoscope Kids Preschool, Tuscany Boutique and Veterinary Hospital, Tuscany Fine Dry Cleaning and the Last Straw (the local Pub). The centre of the Market also has an Esso gas station, FYI Doctors, Scotiabank, Domino’s Pizza and Starbucks.

The second local hub is at the south of Tuscany at Tuscany Hill NW and Nose Hill Drive NW. The Home Depot is often busy for those of us planting gardens, painting walls and making improvements to our homes. Tim Horton’s is also a very popular spot. Not sure I’ve ever seen that drive-thru empty. Next door to Tim Horton’s is Soho Liquor and Great Canadian Pizza/Butter Chicken Hut. Just next door is the newly opened Petro Canada gas station and A&W.

I often hear folks talking about recreation and the suburbs. Not sure they have ever been to Tuscany. Stand on a main corner on a sunny day and you’ll see kids and adults jogging, walking, on bikes, on scooters, on skateboards, carrying baseball gloves and soccer balls. There’s a guy I see all the time roller skiing (summer cross country training). And then there’s the folks running or biking up Tuscany Hill. Just don’t try and swim in Two Toed Pond. There’s folks walking their dogs and those dogs walking their owners. In the winter, the hill south of Tuscany Elementary is usually where you find a few little ones enjoying some sledding.

The community has numerous soccer fields, baseball fields and playgrounds scattered throughout.  Some are for various age groups so wander some of the local paths and explore. Many are hidden from main roads.

12 Mile Coulee Park was established in 2001 and is now protected. Over 190 hectares of parkland right in the community, to walk, hike and explore. There are also two off leash dog park areas within the Coulee. The North Section and South Section areas are both available for a walk with your pup off leash.

Rocky Ridge Recreation Centre – There are currently a number of sports facilities in the area, but soon to be finished is the Rocky Ridge Recreation Centre currently under construction at 11300 Rocky Ridge Drive. You can drive by and view the outside now and it is expected to be open in Spring 2018.

Canada Olympic Park / Winsport – Just down the hill from Tuscany sits COP. With everything from skiing, skating, gym facilities, bobsled, acrobatics, gymnastics, mountain biking and so much more, this facilitiy continues to be an amazing opportunity in Calgary. One of my personal favourite things to do is the Skyline Luge which is the worlds longest luge track and don’t forget the Zip Line. I dare you!

Calgary West Soccer Centre is the big white dome you can see looking south from Tuscany Hill NW.

Whether by bike, transit/LRT or car, transportation around Tuscany is well developed.

The walking/cycling bridge over Stoney offers easy access from Tuscany west to Scenic Acres and over to Crowfoot in Arbour Lake.

The two local bus routes are Route 74 and Route 174. There are additional buses for high school students.
