Field Station is a Community Cultural Development public art project for transit riders and residents of the Tuscany, Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge neighbourhoods in Calgary, Alberta.

1. Faces of the Forest

SATURDAY, AUGUST 26th, 2017. 10am - 12noon.
Meeting place: Tuscany LRT Station, outside of the upper lobby.
Join Artist Patricia Lortie and Naturalist Jean Wallace for a fun and interactive experience exposing the many faces of Tuscany’s forests. Participants will create with found natural materials in a multi-media activity accessible to all ages, including young families. Wear your runners, as we’ll take a 5 minute walk from the Tuscany LRT Station to the northern edge of the 12-Mile Coulee to begin the event. During the excursion, the group will explore narrow foot paths beneath the tree canopy. Maximum group size: 25 participants.

 

2. Weaving Between the Trees

SUNDAY, AUGUST 27th, 2017. 2pm - 4pm.
Meeting place: Rocky Ridge / Royal Oak Neighborhood, details to be shared by email.
Join Artist Patricia Lortie and Naturalist Jean Wallace to explore the natural landscape of Rocky Ridge + Royal Oak neighborhoods. Participants will explore the practice of weaving using found natural materials in a multi-media, creative activity accessible to all ages. The exercise is especially suited to families with older children. Wear your runners, as the group will explore narrow foot paths beneath the tree canopy. Maximum group size: 25 participants.

 

3. Drawing on Transit

MONDAY, AUGUST 28th, 2017. 10am - 12noon.
Meeting place: Tuscany LRT Station, inside the upper lobby.
Join Artist Isabel Porto to explore Calgary’s history through an interactive excursion on the C-train. Participants will trace the city’s development through drawing exercises. While open to all ages, this excursion is best suited to adults and families with older children. Participants will ride the train together to / from downtown, with all spaces being fully accessible. Train tickets will be provided for the event. Maximum group size: 18 participants.

 

4. (Text)ure

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15th, 2017.
Explore the wilderness right in your back yard. Text your neighbour. Post an image. No devices needed. Artist Claudia Weigelsberger will lead the Tuscany Youth Council in capturing the mood and textures of the natural spaces of Tuscany and Rocky Ridge. They’ll create works on paper using found materials, to keep as souvenirs of their trip, and send messages to their neighbours using landscape art techniques.

 

5. Printed in Place, Naturally

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th, 2017. 2:30pm - 4:30pm.
Meeting Place: Tuscany Neighborhood, details to be shared by email.
Artist Eveline Kolijn will lead participants in a printmaking and painting activity inspired by the natural environment. Using natural pigments, participants will create an original composition drawn from the local flora. This excursion is family-friendly and open to all ages. Maximum group size: 25 participants.
