Moving Checklist

• Make arrangements with a moving company.
• Get “Change of Address” cards from the post office and send to friends, family and contacts.
• Advise the post office of your new address and effective date. Arrange for your mail to be forwarded to your new address on your effective date.
• Contact gas and electric companies to set up or transfer service.
• Contact telephone company to set up or transfer service.
• Contact tv/internet company to set up or transfer service.
• Update telephone or online banking to update account numbers for payments.
• Contact Insurance Company:
  • Set the termination date on your current home coverage
  • Update records for life and car insurance
  • Arrange for coverage for your household items en route to your new home
  • Arrange for insurance coverage on your new home
• Update your vehicle registration
• Update your driver’s license.
• Update your bank and credit card records
• Transfer newspaper and magazine subscriptions
• Contact the City of Calgary regarding your property taxes
• Contact cable, internet or satellite providers to terminate or transfer service
• Update clubs, church or other civic organizations
• Obtain school, medical and dental records to transfer to a new city of update contact information if moving locally.
• Arrange to register and transfer records to new schools.
• Obtain veterinarian records for pets.
• Have drug prescriptions refilled
• If moving across provincial lines:
  • Verify if your will must be rewritten
  • Verify if you need to arrange for your car to be inspected
• Update address for federal taxes or programs
